ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Chelsea, just completed my studies in Temasek Polytechnic's School of Design, in the Diploma of Digital Film & Television and am awaiting to entry NTU's School of Art, Design and Media, Undergraduate in Bachelor of Fine Arts. Through my studies I have developed skills in film production and have been given the opportunity to be the director for a documentary project titled "The Words That Saved Me". In Temasek Polytechnic, I have joined Design Student Ambassadors which is a CCA that participates in outward facing events and are the representatives of TP's School of Design. I have been given the opportunity to be a maincomm member of the CCA and was given the role of Honorary Secretary. Together with my main-committee, we have planned and organised events, most recent being Open House 2023, Design Show 2023 and Cut Copy Paste, which was a collaboration with Singapore Artbook fair. Additionally, I have taken on the role of the Head of Logistics in the Design Orientation Camp Main-Committee where I led a team of 13 sub-committee members in sourcing, purchasing and managing of stock materials. This experience has allowed me to develop my teamwork and organisational skills through the planning and organising of the orientation camp.Prior to tertiary education, I was in Peirce Secondary School from 2017-2020 where I achieved top in cohort for Art and Combined Science (Bio/Chem) in Secondary 3. Throughout my time there, I have received various edusave awards. I was also a Senior Student Councillor and regularly took part in events and duties to represent the school.Outside of academics, I have also picked up piano since the age of 6 and achieved ABRSM grade 7 in piano as well as ABRSM grade 6 in Music Theory. Music is something that I enjoy greatly, as well as other creative-based hobbies such as drawing, painting, dance, writing and editing. I have a strong passion for story-telling and film, and I hope to able to create works that will impact people.

GENRE : DramaROLE IN PROJECT : Production DesignerDATE OF PROJECT : 3 January 2021 to 25 February 2021SYNOPSIS : After her mother gets hospitalised, Jane has to step up and take her place in running their convenience store while preparing for her upcoming ‘A’ levels examinations. Things take a turn for the worst when she has to find a way to earn enough money in order to pay for a vendor bill before his next delivery along with her mother’s medical bill. However, with the help and support of Claire, the class chairperson, they manage to triumph over adversity and emerge on the other end as closer friends.MY EXPERIENCE IN THE PROJECT : This project was part of the Short Film Project 1 module of my first year in the diploma of Digital Film and Television. In this project, I took on the role of Production Designer. This was the first ever time I had been part of the creation a short film of any kind from pre-production all the way to post-production and the first time I had ever been on a set. I had no idea what to expect and was unsure of myself in the role I had taken on, but with the help of my team, I was able to find props and wardrobe that fit the director's vision. This project was a huge learning experience for me as I had to learn to be adaptable and innovative, which has helped me throughout my journey in this course.

GENRE : ThrillerROLE IN PROJECT : Production DesignerDATE OF PROJECT : 27 June 2022 to 21 August 2022SYNOPSIS : Living under her mother’s control, Fang Yi tries escaping and finds herself with the aid of her mysterious new neighbour. However, her neighbour may not be as kind as she seems.MY EXPERIENCE IN THE PROJECT : This project was part of the Short Film Project 2 module of my second year in the diploma of Digital Film and Television. In this project, I took on the role of Production Designer once again, but this time at a much larger scale. After being the production designer for my first short film project, I had thoroughly enjoyed the experience and wanted to further develop my skills. I was able to work well with the director to help her bring her vision to life and find props that would add to the scene. While the process was difficult and tiring at times, it has allowed me to be more collaborative with my peers and be more quick-thinking when unexpected problems occur.

THE WORDS THAT SAVED ME

GENRE : DocumentaryROLE IN PROJECT : Director and Story OriginatorDATE OF PROJECT : 3 January 2023 to 26 February 2023SYNOPSIS : Being the only suicide prevention centre with a 24-hour hotline in Singapore, the volunteers at Samaritans of Singapore work day in and day out to lend a listening ear to those struggling with their mental health. Hotline operators share their story as a volunteer at SOS and how it has impacted them.MY EXPERIENCE IN THE PROJECT : After a semester of learning about non-fiction film, this project was part of the Documentary Project module of my second year in the diploma of Digital Film and Television. In this project, my story had been chosen and I was given the opportunity to become a Director for this film. It was challenging as I had never taken on this role before, but my team had helped me a lot and supported me along the way. This experience taught me how to both verbalise and visualise my vision for the film and how to be more adaptable. I also was able to develop my communication and interpersonal skills through collaboration with the team as well as with Samaritans of Singapore.

VINTAGE TAILOR SHOP (PRODUCTION DESIGN)

ROLE IN PROJECT : Art DirectorDATE OF PROJECT : 1 June 2022 to 10 June 2022MY EXPERIENCE IN THE PROJECT : This project was part of the Production Design module in my second year of the diploma of Digital Film and Television. The assignment was to build a vintage set, which would be turned into a horror set after the first grading. Taking on the role of art director, I worked with the production designer to plan and design a set which would encompass all the elements that we wanted to include in the storyline of the character of the tailor. Through this project I was able to work with new people who I had never worked with before and learn to adapt to their different working styles. Overall, despite the project being physically taxing, it was an enjoyable experience and fuelled my love for production design.
